My brother (Hunter) and I are going to see one of the greatest musical and lyrical geniuses of our time next month. On September 19th, as Hunter and I take our seats in the dress circle at Carnegie Hall in New York City, Randy Newman will be backstage probably having a drink and preparing for his concert. On the stage there will be a single grand piano, a bench, and a microphone stand.
I expect that a single white spotlight will be focused on the piano and the rest of the massive stage will be dark. There will probably by some kind of light classical music playing through the PA system and there will be a feeling of raw electric excitement coming through the crowd with a sort of muted feel to it.
Hunter and I will be sitting next to each other, excited and smiling.
I'm looking forward it.
